President's Letter

Esther Babady, PhD, D(ABMM)

Dear NYC ASM Branch colleagues and friends,

It is my great pleasure and honor to serve as the 2017-2018 president of our great society. The NYC ASM branch is at the center of our professional life and fills a vital function in the mission of the National ASM. I’m excited about all that we will accomplish together in the coming year.

I have been a member of the NYC ASM Branch since 2010 when I joined the Clinical Microbiology Service in Department of Laboratory Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. During my first Spring meeting, I quickly realized how amazing and vibrant the membership of the NYC ASM branch is and I have been a proud member ever since. No organization can prosper without an engaged membership base and we are fortunate to have such enthusiastic members.

Being clinical microbiologists in New York City affords us with incredible opportunities and exciting challenges each and every year. Members of the NYC ASM Branch Council work tirelessly to ensure that members have access to the most current news and information related to our field. In the next year, we will continue to see not only an expansion in rapid molecular diagnostic tools but also an increase in rapid, multiplexed phenotypic methods, the use of next generation sequencing for diagnosis and of course the implementation of total laboratory automation.

To keep up with the fast paced changes occurring in Clinical Microbiology, we will continue to assemble a phenomenal line-up of speakers for our two annual Symposiums, posting the most current information on our website and using social media to inform, educate and generate interest in our organization and its importance and role in New York City.
